A new collection reflecting on Place

March 20, 2014

The folks at The New Atlantis are announcing a new book: Why Place Matters. Here’s some of their description:

Edited by the historians Wilfred M. McClay and Ted V. McAllister, Why Place Matters features distinguished scholars and authors, with essays such as:

  • A Plea For Beauty: A Manifesto for a New Urbanism” – by philosopher Roger Scruton
  • The Space Was Ours Before We Were the Place’s” – by Wilfred M. McClay
  • The Demand Side of Urbanism” – by architect Witold Rybczynski
  • ‘I Can’t Believe You’re From L.A.!’” – by poet Dana Gioia, former chairman of the NEA
  • GPS and the End of the Road” – by essayist Ari N. Schulman
  • Cosmopolitanism and Place” – by historian Russell Jacoby
  • The New Meaning of Mobility” – by essayist Christine Rosen
  • Place-Conscious Transportation Policy” – by transportation planner Gary Toth
  • The Rise of Localist Politics” – by Humane Pursuits editor Brian Brown
  • Place/Space, Ethnicity/Cosmos: How to Be More Fully Human” – by geographer Yi-Fu Tuan

It sounds quite promising to me! The link is here.
